It was so fun seeing the dogs and their enthusiasm. The 16 teams left the starting gates two minutes apart. Also, there was a fur auction, outdoor carnival, and Native Alaskan craft fair. The day we went (Saturday) it snowed all day. There were people riding the ferris wheel and other carnival rides in a driving snow storm.
There are a lot of different kinds of dogs in this race. They are participating for their speed and maybe not their endurance. When the iditarod begins next weekend, you will see the huskies you were probably expecting.
My kids were reading over my shoulder as I was checking out your new blog- when we got to the picture of the sled dogs they burst out with, " They have sled dogs!!!! We so have to go there!"
