The ceremonial start of the Iditarod begins in downtown Anchorage. We picked a spot outside of town along the trail to watch a few teams go by. There were 71 dog teams that began the race so you could stay and watch for hours. We just saw a few. The official start is the following day in Willow which is about an hour from Anchorage. Then we went downtown for the fur auction, carnival and snow sculpture. I find it really amusing how the locals embrace a carnival at this time of year so I took a picture of some kids enjoying a ride. It was about 20 degrees. Way too cold to be strapped into a thrill ride.
Alaska kids are pretty tough. My kids would have been crying their eyes out I'm pretty sure. Thanks for sharing your great experiences with me. I enjoy them all and it almost makes me feel like I've been somewhere.

Looks like you guys are having a great time. I have not looked at you blog for a long time and it was fun to see some of the fun things you are doing. I can not believe those sculpture, they are amazing!!
